The PD-16 Clevis is a type of electrical hardware. The "P" designation stands for parallel bracket, the "D" designates a single bracket, and the "16" designates a nominal breaking load of 160 kN. It measures 64 mm wide, has an 18 mm aperture, and is 100 mm long, weighing approximately 1.28 kg. It is manufactured from Q235B steel, ensuring it can withstand the tensile forces required for power lines. Hot-dip galvanizing effectively isolates the bracket from air and moisture, preventing rust and improving its corrosion resistance. This allows it to be used in outdoor environments, expanding PD-16 Clevis application range.
In actual use, the service life of the PD-16 Clevis is determined by the operating environment. To summarize:
Normal environments
With proper maintenance during daily use, it can last for over 30 years.
Outdoor environments
Under varying temperatures and humidity levels, and exposed to direct sunlight, it typically has a service life of 20-25 years.
Highly corrosive environments
In industrial pollution environments, it can last for 15-20 years. Regardless of the environment in which it is used, the quality of the zinc coating must be paramount. Excellent performance characteristics can expand the application range of siding.
We've been discussing galvanizing for a long time because it is crucial to the performance of PD-16 Clevis. However, frequent siding users know that galvanizing is divided into hot-dip galvanizing and cold-dip galvanizing processes. So what are the differences between these different galvanizing processes?
Hot-dip galvanizing
The zinc layer forms a metallurgical bond with the substrate, providing both physical isolation and sacrificial anodic protection. The zinc layer is thick and uniform, providing complete coverage, strong adhesion, and excellent impact and wear resistance.
Cold-dip galvanizing
Zinc powder particles are attached to the substrate surface via a film-forming agent. There is no metallurgical bond, resulting in a thinner zinc layer. This can lead to uneven coating during production and flaking from prolonged vibration or friction.
If PD-16 Clevis is used in humid or salty environments, hot-dip galvanizing is recommended. The thicker and more adherent zinc layer ensures long-term stable operation in harsh environments, significantly reducing maintenance costs. However, cold galvanizing also has its own application areas. For example, for short-term use or indoor use, cold galvanizing can also be selected because of its lower cost.
