Square Yoke Plates are rectangular in shape and used for rigid connections between insulator strings, conductors, and towers in high-voltage transmission lines. They achieve load transfer and structural fixation through precise hole layout and high-strength materials. The square structure ensures better mechanical balance, and the symmetrical characteristics of the four sides distribute the load evenly to each connection point, effectively avoiding stress concentration. Furthermore, the simplified processing and installation positioning process adapts to standardized installation scenarios. When selecting plates, 210-250kN destructive load models are used for 110kV-220kV lines, 320-420kN models for 330kV-500kV lines, and 640kN models are preferred for UHV lines. For ordinary inland areas, Q235B + hot-dip galvanized steel is selected; for cold regions and high altitudes, Q550 material is chosen. The plate length is determined based on the number of insulator discs, and the hole diameter is selected based on the number of conductor splits.

Square yoke plates and triangular yoke plates are the two most widely used types of yoke plates in the power industry. Many users are unsure which type of yoke plate is suitable for their operating conditions. Below, we compare these two types of yoke plates to help you make the selection:

Core Structure The plate is rectangular with rounded corners and is forged. The plate is triangular (equilateral/isosceles), and the standard model includes 3 connecting holes. It is mostly manufactured by welding or forging processes.
Hole Layout Symmetrical multi-hole distribution at both ends, with hole diameters of Φ20-33mm, adaptable to multi-directional connection requirements. Each of the three vertices has one hole with a diameter of Φ18-26mm, and the holes are distributed at a 120° angle, suitable only for fixed angle connections.
Material The mainstream materials are Q235B and Q550 low-alloy steel, while 35CrMoA custom alloy steel is used for ultra-high voltage applications, with material strengths ranging from 375-900MPa. Mainly made of ductile iron and ordinary carbon steel, with some high-voltage models using Q235B, and tensile strength mostly ≤400MPa.
Mechanical properties The load is transferred evenly in multiple directions; the stress concentration factor is ≤1.2 under a load of 200kN; the fatigue life is ≥2×10⁶ cycles; and the failure load is 210-640kN. The load is mainly transmitted in one direction. Under a load of 200kN, the stress concentration factor is ≥2.0, the fatigue life is ≤1×10⁶ cycles, and the failure load is 70-160kN.
Anti-corrosion process and lifespan Hot-dip galvanized (zinc layer ≥86μm), salt spray resistance ≥10,000 hours, service life in normal environments 30 years. Mainly hot-dip galvanized (zinc layer ≤60μm), salt spray resistance ≤5000 hours, and service life in normal environments of 15-20 years.
Applicable voltage Covering 110kV-500kV and above ultra-high voltage, with a focus on 330kV+ medium-high voltage scenarios. Suitable for 110kV and below low-voltage lines; some models can be used in 220kV light-duty applications.
Application scenarios Assembly of insulator strings for ultra-high voltage lines: fixing two/three/four split conductors. Simple connection of single-split conductor suspension insulator string for low-voltage lines.
Installation efficiency Symmetrical structure + adjustment hole design, high-altitude installation and positioning time ≤ 5 minutes/set, suitable for batch standardized construction. The hole positions and angles are fixed, requiring precise alignment during installation. The positioning time is ≥10 minutes per set, demanding high construction precision.
