Z clevis, also called right-angle clevis, is a standard steering connection hardware for overhead power lines and substations. It connects insulator strings and conductor clamps via bolt assembly to form stable suspension or tension sets. Thanks to its dual-axis rotatable structure, the fitting can adapt to multi-angle tension directions and buffer impact force brought by conductor pulling. All Z clevis are forged from Q235 carbon steel with full hot-dip galvanizing, zinc coating thickness ≥60μm to cope with long-term outdoor rusting. Precision machining ensures consistent dimensions and reliable overload resistance. The whole series features easy on-site assembly, low maintenance cost and neat uniform appearance after installation

 

Standard Step-by-Step Installation Guide
Follow this standardized operation process to avoid eccentric load and assembly defects:
Pre-installation Check & Tool Prep
Confirm the clevis model matches construction drawings; inspect galvanized surface for rust, peeling or scratches. Prepare matched bolts, torque wrench, laser level and electric drill;
Position Calibration
Use laser level to mark installation reference lines. Control vertical tolerance within ±2mm; check bending angle of Z clevis at complex tower structures to avoid forced distortion during assembly;
Bolt Assembly
Reserve 1–2mm clearance between hole diameter and bolt shank to eliminate deformation risk from thermal expansion and contraction;
Multi-Angle Position Adjustment
Utilize the dual-axis rotating feature of Z clevis to align the fitting with actual tension direction of insulators and wires. For overlapping connection positions, keep overlap length over 40mm and fix with double bolts crosswise;
Post-installation Dynamic Inspection
Manually shake the whole assembly to confirm smooth rotation without abnormal friction noise. When matched with composite insulators, mount grading rings and guarantee discharge clearance ≥150mm

Different climate zones require separate inspection and maintenance plans to extend service life:

Coastal high-humidity & salt fog areas Test zinc coating thickness regularly; install rubber sealing gaskets on bolt holes. Complete full inspection every 3 months;

Industrial pollution & acid rain zones Spray extra acid-resistant protective coating on the galvanized surface, reapply the coating every half year;

Frigid frozen soil regions Replace standard bolts with low-temperature alloy bolts;conduct comprehensive hardware inspection before winter comes to prevent cold brittle fracture
